Marg Haza (b. 1990, Miami, Florida) is a Dominican-American painter based in Miami whose work lives at the intersection of the body, memory, and identity. Her work is rooted in her experience of defining the body: bodies of flesh, bodies of spirit, and bodies of land, where she explores identity lived through navigating chronic illness, mental health, and ancestry, told through large figures, self-portraits, and personal symbolism.

Haza is also a nurse, and her experience living with chronic illness herself has become central to how she sees and makes work. Her paintings ask questions about what it means to inhabit a body — one shaped by culture, by care, by pain, and by survival.

She has exhibited at Art Wynwood, Clandestina Art Fair, and Coloursources Project Gallery in the Allapattah Arts District, and has been featured in ArtE$tate Magazine and the Miami Herald. She recently completed a studio residency at CollaboARTive. She will be showing new work with FLARE in September in NYC, an inaugural international exhibition bringing awareness to endometriosis.

Figures are at the center of my exploration. I return to the human form because that is where emotional truth lives most honestly, and because the body has always been a subject I cannot distance myself from. I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and endometriosis, and living with chronic pain and unpredictable mobility has profoundly shaped my relationship to figuration. The body is not a neutral vessel in my work. It is the whole subject. Its existence is resistance.

The physicality of creating larger works, and my recent exploration into mural work and hand-building clay, reinforces my personal philosophy that creating through physical obstacles is a healing modality and an integral tenet in my practice.
